Wichita, KS (SportsNetwork. Cheap Air Jordan 6 .com) - Fred VanVleet had 21 points and nine assists as No. 9 Wichita State routed Tulsa 75-55 on Saturday afternoon. Ron Baker netted 19 points and Darius Carter added 14 for the Shockers (4-0), who led by as many as 23. I thought a couple of our veterans played beautiful basketball, Shockers coach Gregg Marshall said. James Woodard posted 19 points to lead Tulsa (3-3). They (Shockers) played with great toughness and I thought that was the difference of the game, Tulsa coach Frank Haith said. Marquel Curtis 3-pointer staked Tulsa to a 16-15 edge just over five minutes in, but the Shockers responded with a 13-2 run to create some distance. Baker, Tekele Cotton and Rian Holland all nailed triples during the surge, which was capped on a Carter jumper for a 28-18 Wichita State cushion with 7:20 left in the opening half. Van Vleet netted the final eight points during an 11-0 swing to close the stanza, including a layup to cap it and give the Shockers a 40-22 advantage heading into the break. Wichita State cruised to the easy win in the second half. Game Notes Wichita State shot 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the floor and was 12-of-26 from beyond the arc ... The Shockers outrebounded the Golden Hurricane by a 39-27 margin. Air Jordan 6 Uk . The Suns termed Fridays surgery by team doctor Thomas Carter a success. No timetable was given for Bledsoes return but the team said in a news release that he "will pursue a possible return to action during the second half" of the season. Air Jordan 6 For Sale . "How many innings was that?" he wondered. http://www.airjordan6uk.com/ . -- Canadian womens amateur golf champion Brooke Henderson is a little less starstruck as she prepares for her second career appearance at an LPGA Tour major event.TORONTO -- One might expect that the school that produced Chuck (The Iceman) Liddell knows a little bit about firepower. Canadian Mackenzie Pridham led the Cal Poly soccer strike force this season with his 14 goals helping set a school record of 43 for the team. "Hes a true goal-scorer," said Cal Poly coach Paul Holocher. "Hes really put up numbers like this throughout his own career but really took off the last two years in particular." Pridham is Cal Polys all-time leading scorer with 27 goals and the first to repeat as Big West Offensive Player of the Year since current Seattle Sounders midfielder Brad Evans did it at UC Irvine standout. Liddell wrestled at Cal Poly from 1988 to 93, graduating with a bachelors degree in business/accounting in 1995. Now retired as a fighter, the former light-heavyweight champion is the UFCs vice-president of business development and still lives in San Luis Obispo. Pridham looks to show his attacking skills at the MLS Combine that opens Friday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Other Canadians among the 60-plus invited are forward Tesho Akindele from the Colorado School of Mines and Wisconsin midfielder Tomislav Zadro. "Im pretty honoured to be invited," said the 23-year-old Pridham, known as Mac to most of his friends. "Very happy and very excited for what lies ahead." The Combine is followed by the MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 16 in Philadelphia. D.C. United picks first with Philadelphia second. The Vancouver Whitecaps select third, using a Toronto pick obtained in the Eric Hassli trade, and seventh. Montreal chooses 10th and Toronto goes 15th by virtue of a pick obtained from New York in the Bobby Convey trade. Pridham finished sixth among Division I players with 0.70 goals per match, eighth with 14 goals and 10th with 31 points. Those numbers might have been bigger had the Mustangs made the NCAA tournament or had Pridham avoided a late-season injury (he was second in NCAA goal-scoring when he went down). Pridham ranks second all-time in Cal Poly points (58) and multi-goal games (five) and eighth in appearances (70). Pridham was born in Toronto to Canadian parents. Pridhams father is in the tech industry and moved the family, which now calls Saraatoga, Calif. Air Jordan 6 Uk Online. , home, to California when Mackenzie was a young boy. His relatives remain in Toronto, which he visits annually. A redshirt in 2011 due to an ankle injury, Pridham found his scoring groove as a junior and senior with 11 and 14 goals, respectively. "We really got a style and system down in our program that fit me and my style of play," he said. "I really was able to turn my game around from my injury and get back to how I should be performing." Pridham has a nose for goal and where to be at the right time. "I feel Im very good at taking advantage of those opportunities and trying to be as clinical as I can in finishing them." Six of Pridhams 14 goals this season were game-winners or equalizers. "Hes great in the (penalty) box," said Holocher, a former U.S. international who had MLS stints with San Jose and Chicago. "He has very, very good instincts." Pro soccer is "absolutely" in Pridhams future, according to Holocher. Pridham has already attracted attention north of the border. The six-foot-one 180-pounder trained with Toronto FC last summer and earned invites from the Canadian under-17 and under-20 teams. The Canadian Soccer Association invited him to be part of the 2009 Francophone Games team but the dates clashed with school commitments. His parents and sister are dual citizens and he is in the process of doing the same. Despite his time with Canadian age-group sides, he has not had to declare his international allegiance yet when it comes to soccer. "For right now, my main focus is just getting to play professionally and hopefully making a name for myself so I do have to make that decision," he said. But given his Canadian ties, "it would be hard to veer away from that," he added. "But that being said theres no pressure right now and I havent really thought about it all the way." At Cal Poly, Pridham studied business administration with a focus on entrepreneurship. Midfielder Efrain (Junior) Burgos became the first Mustang taken in the MLS SuperDraft when picked 44th overall by Toronto FC in 2011. Former Cal Poly goalkeeper Patrick McLain signed with Chivas USA in 2012. General Discussion / expected to recover from illness to face Andreas
« on: January 09, 2019, 06:00:15 AM »
NAPLES, Italy -- Andy Murray is expected to recover from illness to face Andreas Seppi on the opening day of Britains Davis Cup quarter-final against Italy. Air Jordan 1 Australia Online . Murray was confined to his hotel room with a stomach bug during the draw on Thursday but the Wimbledon champion is likely to line up against Seppi in Fridays second singles match, when he will be looking for his sixth consecutive win against the Italian. James Ward will start Britains bid to reach the Davis Cup semifinals for the first time since 1981 with a daunting test against Italian No. 1 Fabio Fognini in the opening match. "Andys got some sort of virus which has made him feel pretty poorly over the last 24 hours in particular," Britain captain Leon Smith said. "It is important to give him a lot of rest and recovery. Thats why he didnt attend the draw, to spend time with the doctor and stay at the hotel away from the rest of the group. "Hopefully he can be fit and play a big part in the weekend, which Im sure he will. Hes a fighter and obviously desperate to play so looks like he will be OK." Despite his illness, Murray will still be the favourite against Seppi, who -- at no. 34 -- is ranked 26 places below the two-time Grand Slam champion. "Its going to be a very difficult match," Seppi said. "Hes a great player. The last matches I played against him, I always lost so I have to do better. I have to try and play my best game, very aggressive and hopefully I can beat him." Italy will be relying heavily on Fogninis fine form as it attempts to reach the final four for the first time since 1998. The charismatic Fognini is currently at a career-high ranking of No. 13, after winning three singles titles on clay within the past nine months. He said he has fully shaken off a left leg injury he picked up in the quarterfinal defeat to Rafael Nadal in Miami. "I feel great," said Fognini. "I was a little bit tired, felt some pain in the legs, but now I feel much better. I have had more than one week to recover and hopefully Friday is going to go the right way Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins are set to face Simone Bolelli and Paolo Lorenzi in Saturdays doubles. CAIRO, Egypt -- Egypt must eliminate 2010 quarterfinalist Ghana to make it to the World Cup for the first time in over 20 years after the countries were drawn Monday to face each other in Africas decisive playoffs. Clearance Air Max 1 Ireland . Top-ranked African team Ivory Coast will meet Senegal in the two-leg series starting next month to decide which one of those West African powers makes it to Brazil. In the other matchups: Ethiopia will face African champion Nigeria as it attempts to reach the World Cup for the first time; Tunisia will play Cameroon after the North Africans were re-instated to the playoffs in place of Cape Verde; and African Cup runner-up Burkina Faso, also hoping for its first appearance at footballs main event, was drawn against Algeria. The first legs will be played between October 11-15 and the second legs a month later, ultimately deciding Africas five representatives at the World Cup and ending the two-year qualifying competition. Egypt, a record seven-time African champion, last went to the World Cup in 1990. But despite the constant distraction of violent unrest at home, former United States coach Bob Bradley led the Egyptians to the 10-team playoffs with a perfect run in group qualifying. "We are the strongest team in the group. We are not afraid of confronting Ghana," Bradley said at the draw. Ghana was the best-performing African team at the last World Cup, when it beat the Bradley-led United States in the second round, and will be at home in the first leg. Authorities havent yet decided if fans will be allowed in to the second leg in Egypt, where recent national team games have been held behind closed doors and in the Red Sea resort of El Gouna, away from the countrys unsettled major cities. Ivory Coast was pitted against Senegal about a year after a riot at a stadium in Dakar when they met in African Cup qualifying. Ivory Coast will be at home first. Senegal reached the World Cup quarterfinals in 2002, only the third African country to achieve that feat, but hasnt appeared on the biggest stage since then. Ethiopia emerged from a long spell of underperforming to play at the African Cup of Nations this year, but faces a tough draw against new African champion Nigeria. Ethiopia hosts the first leg. Tunisia was given a second chance at the World Cup after Cape Verde forfeited its victory over the Tunisians in the final round of group games and was thrown out the playoffs for playing Fernando Varela when he should have been suspended. Tunisia will be led by interim coach Ruud Krol after Nabil Maaloul quit in disgust at the 2-0 home loss to Cape Verde days before Tunisia was reinstated by FIFA. "It is a chance for redemption for the Tunisian players," said Youssef Zouaoui, Tunisias technical director of national teams. Tunisia will host Cameroon first, which will be without all-time leading scorer Samuel Etoo for the playoffs after the Chelsea striker retired from the national team. Burkina Faso surprisingly reached the final of the African Cup this year, while Algeria, ranked No. 3 in Africa behind Ivory Coast and Ghana, is seeking successive appearances at World Cups. "We avoided teams like Senegal, Cameroon and above all Egypt, but we must not get cocky, it will be 50-50," Algeria coach Vahid Halilhodzic said on national radio. Burkina Faso hosts the first leg before the underdog Burkinabes chase their place in history away in Algeria. "We believe playing the second leg away from home could be advantageous with our opponent feeling a lot pressure at home," Burkinabe Football Federation president Sita Sangare said. DETROIT - The streaking Toronto Blue Jays will have their work cut out for them if they want to complete a sweep of the Tigers, as they face Justin Verlander in todays matinee finale of a three-game series in Detroit. Air Max 97 Australia Cheap . The Blue Jays will not have Edwin Encarnacion in their starting line-up. The slugger left Wednesday nights game in the ninth inning with tightness in his back. The right-handed Verlander is coming off a 6-3 win over the hosting Seattle Mariners on Friday, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk over 7 2/3 innings. It was his longest outing since going eight frames on April 6, and his seven strikeouts against the Mariners was his highest total since also fanning seven on May 4 at Kansas City. Verlander is 6-4 with a 3.99 earned run average on the year and 3-2 lifetime against the Blue Jays with a 4.02 ERA. Toronto left-hander J.A. Happ will make his seventh start of the year and had won three straight outings before a 6-1 loss to the Royals on Friday. It was an odd game for Happ, who logged a season-high 7 2/3 innings, but also yielded a 2014-worst six runs on nine hits and two walks. Happ, 31, dipped to 4-2 with a 4.10 ERA in nine total appearances on the season and will face the Tigers for the third time in his career and for the second time as a starter. He has held them to a run over 9 1/3 innings without a decision, striking out eight. The red-hot Blue Jays are looking to sweep the Tigers for the first time since April 5-7, 2004 and won their fourth straight overall with last nights 8-2 win. Melky Cabrera had three hits, one a homer, and three runs scored, while Jose Bautista also chipped in with three hits and a pair of RBI. Adam Lind drove in three runs in his clubs 13th victory in 15 games. R.A. Dickey (6-4) gave up both runs on seven hits and four walks in five-plus innings, while four relievers combined to yield zero hits the rest of the way. That includes Aaron Loup, who took over in the sixth inning for Dickey after he had yielded a pair of walks around a single to load the bases with nobody out. However, Loup fanned J.D. Martinez and then induced weak pop flies in foul territory to both Rajai Davis and Ian Kinsler. "Tonight, I guess was one of those lucky nights where you kind of pull a rabbit out of your hat," said Loup. "Usually you dont get out of situations like that." Miguel Cabrera and Kinsler had solo homers to produce the two Detroit runs, while Rick Porcello (8-3) was charged with three runs on six hits over seven innings. "We had some opportunities. We were unable to come up with the big hit tonight," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. The Tigers have lost four straight. Wholesale Air Max 97 Australia . Louis Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia will have surgery on his left shoulder this week and is expected to miss the rest of the season.CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Al Jefferson is doubtful for Game 4 Monday night against the Miami Heat due to a lingering foot injury, according to Bobcats coach Steve Clifford. Jefferson, the teams leading scorer and rebounder, has been hobbled since straining the plantar fascia in his left foot in the first quarter of Game 1. He didnt participate in Mondays shoot around. "Hes not close to where he was for the last two games," Clifford said. Clifford said in Game 3 Jeffersons foot got worse as the game progressed and having only one day off in between games didnt help his chances of being ready for Game 4. Jefferson hobbled noticeably Monday as he left the gym after watching teammates shoot around in practice. Jefferson said he feels as if hes "walking on needles." "I wouldnt wish this pain on anyone," Jefferson said. "Its the worst pain Ive ever dealt with in my career." Jefferson wouldnt rule himself out, saying hes taking things hour-to-hour. "Im seeing how its going to feel and go from there," Jefferson said. Miami leads the series 3-0 and can close out the Bobcats with a win Monday night in Charlotte. Clifford said Bismack Biyombo is expected to start for Jefferson. That represents a major dropoff in production, particularly from the offensive end. Jefferson averaged 21.8 points and 10.8 rebound per game in his first season with the Bobcats, while Biyombo has never scored more than 14 points in a game.. Cheap Air Max 97 Sale. . Biyombo has only played 15 minutes in the playoffs and scored one point. Jeffersons teammates said they respect his ability to get on the floor the past two games. "He has given us all he can," point guard Kemba Walker said. "And I think down to a man we appreciate his effort. Hes been nothing but great for us. He has been playing really well and hes not 100 per cent." Said Clifford: "I know how badly Al wants to play. The most upset person about this is him. So its frustrating, but again its part of pro sports." Clifford said the Bobcats will play more five-man basketball using pick and rolls, rather than relying on Jefferson in the low post. Walker, the teams second-leading scorer, will be relied upon to help pick up the slack in Jeffersons absence. "We have to find better ways for Kemba to be on the attack," Clifford said. Jefferson said its frustrating that he worked so hard all season only to injure the foot in the first quarter of the playoffs. "This season has been a great season for all of the things we have done so far," Jefferson said. "We are going into the game tonight trying to win... Regardless of what may happen it has been a wonderful season and guys have a lot to be proud of for the things we have done this season. But we cant take any steps back. We have to continue to build and get better." Jefferson said he wont need surgery after the season. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ethan Finlay scored in the 88th minute to give the Columbus Crew a 1-1 tie with Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night. Trevon Coley Jersey . "Im proud of them the way they fought back, but the other side is youre disappointed were in that position in the first place," Columbus coach Gregg Berhalter said. "Were on the sideline celebrating a tying goal but we should have been in a different position." Salt Lake goalkeeper Jeff Attinella was pleased how a makeshift lineup responded after a 4-0 loss Saturday at Seattle, but knew the teams first victory at Crew Stadium in seven games since 2006 was within its grasp. "Initially, Im disappointed when its that late in the game and were up 1-0," he said. "We want to do our best to get three points. It doesnt matter whether were on the road or not, but before the game we would have taken (a point)." Finlay, who entered in the 77th minute, took a through-ball from Ben Speas on the right side and dribbled just inside the penalty area before chipping the ball over Attinella. The third-year player has scored all three of his career goals in the past four games. "(Speas) played a great ball in and Attinella came out quick," Finlay said. Attinella finished with six saves, making four outstanding stops after teammate Luis Gil opened the scoring in the 56th minute to end the teams 275-minute goal drought. Gil scored his second goal of the season after goalkeeper Steve Clark made a save on Abdoulie Mansallys long strike. "I just pounced on it when I saw it coming," Gil said. "You sniff those out. You want those. It was a good strike and a good follow as well. We had a lot of guys up there." Salt Lake is 6-1-7, and Columbus 4-5-5. For Vancouvers third game in eight days, Robinson kept the diamond in midfield but rung the changes, some forced and others out of choice. Alex McGough Jersey . Steven Beitashour was on the trip but failed a late fitness test and was replaced by Ethen Sampson, who made only his second MLS start. Fellow 20-year-old Christian Dean joined him in the back four, with veteran Andy OBrien left at home. Pedro Morales was not 100 per cent so was left on the bench, leaving Mauro Rosales to occupy the playmaking number ten role as Mehdi Ballouchy came in on the right to help Sampson defensively. Darren Mattocks returned up top alongside Sebastian Fernandez. Dallas boss Oscar Pareja abandoned his back three experiment from the loss last week against Real Salt Lake, choosing a straight 4-4-2 featuring an explosive front four that surprisingly included Blas Perez, back from international duty with Panama. The Game Dallas won 2-1 in a match that was decided on moments and key decisions. It can be a cruel game sometimes and a steep learning curve for a young side like Vancouver. Robinson will have had a difficult time post match with what to say to his players, an all too familiar story for the Whitecaps lately. Dallas opened the scoring after 20 minutes from a freak wondergoal by Perez. Defender Jordan Harveys reaction said it all. The experienced left back, who had 168 of the combined 172 MLS starts for the defence heading in, just waved his hand towards the net as a signal for how ridiculous the goal was. For Vancouver it was a kick in the guts. A team that has struggled so much to find ways to score did not need to see first hand clear evidence of how easy sometimes a ball can go in from nothing. In truth, the Whitecaps should have already been ahead when Darren Mattocks was played in alone at the other end but once again took too many touches and wasnt able to finish. Another familiar story. The Whitecaps, led by the brilliant Rosales, grew back into the game and deserved their equaliser, scored by Erik Hurtado who had replaced the ineffective Mattocks. It was a goal orchestrated by Rosales and one that highlighted the weaknesses of the hosts. Central midfielders Michel and Victor Ulloa struggled throughout with their collective defensively responsibilities, allowing Rosales to run the show in behind them. On the goal he broke into that space again, while Hurtado made an intelligent run in the channels between Zach Loyd and Jair Benitez at left back who had come on for Moises Hernandez. Hurtados run was good but his finish was even better. Dallas was a threat in the final third when they got there but struggled throughout the game in keeping possession, an issue they havent solved all season. However, that is their identity now, a team so dangerous from set pieces and once their quick, explosive wingers get the ball in the final third. Their winning goal, not surprisingly, came from a set piece with Michel sending a ball into the box that the Whitecaps didnt deal with, allowing, on the second phase, Perez to place the ball into an empty net after David Ousted came off his line and didnt get the ball. It capped off a mixed night for the Danish keeper who made two magnificent saves to keep his team in the game between each of the goals he conceded. The Positives Vancouver is a team who has no legitimate goalscorer. Their best player isnt fit and was a shadow of his former self when he came on. They had three centre-backs, who have all started big games for them over recent weeks, unavailable, while key pieces in Beitashour and Gershon Koffie were injured. Yet, they still went toe-to-toe with a team that will qualify for the playoffs in a very competitive Western Conference. Some Whitecaps fans dont want to hear that this season is a year of transition for this franchise but that is a reality as a new boss tries to bring in his own players and deal with the challenges left behind by the former coach. If Vancouver wants to be a consistent challenger for a playoff spot it is about building a strong spine and that showed some great signs of improvement on a cloudy night in Frisco. Ousted is a rock in goal and is allowed a mistake, one that haunted him as he was still talking at length about it later that night at the hotel. Kendall Waston had another excellent game and his inexperienced partner, Dean, grew into the game. He will have less severe tests than ones given to him by Castillo and Perez on his debut. Matias Laba had another outstanding game and completely ran the central midfield. His workrate showed Dallas exactly what they miss as they look a broken team who struggle to get midfielders in the game to combine with the front four. Ahead of Laba, Rosales was the best player for the Whitecaps and the only thing missing to complete a strong spine is a pure finisher, although Hurtados goal will give him a lot of confidence and may earn him a start next week in Portland. The Weaknesses It is a broken record by now. If Mattocks scores his chance inside the first fifteen minutes it is a different game. Too often when balls were played to the feet of the front two they didnt stick. Zach Loyd and Matt Hedges put on a centre-back clinic on how to press, be aggressive and take the forwards out of the game. The longer the game wore on the more intimidated they were by them with only Fernandez looking a threat when he gets space to dribble into. A new striker is needed and will arrive for 2015 and with him needs to come a natural winger who can push opposing full backs deep and attack the white line just to give Robinson another option and make sure their attacks are not too narrow and predictable. Star Man Rosales was a magician. No one works harder, no one reads the game better and he isnt afraid to tell team-mates that also, educating them on their choices and helping them be better. With Morales struggling, we have yet to see the best of these two playmakers together and it was wise that when the Chilean did come on Robinson kept Rosales in the central role were he tortured the Dallas midfield. He, like Waston at the other end, has become an on-field leader already and one the team cannot afford to be without. Both players are examples of Robinsons Whitecaps that need to be at the club next season to help take them to the next level. Right now, though, the immediate goal is the playoffs and despite all the adversity the team is still in fifth spot with six games remaining. That in itself is a huge sign of progression for this franchise no matter when the curtain comes down on their 2014 campaign. Ethan Pocic Jersey . Bryce Harper? Instead, the No. 6 Cowboys (10-2, 7-2 Big 12) were left in a state of last-second shock after rival Oklahoma answered with a rally of its own in the closing minutes of a 33-24 win on Saturday. Desmond Roland, who finished with 144 yards rushing and accounted for three touchdowns, appeared to put Oklahoma State up for good with his 1-yard touchdown with 1:46 remaining. His score put the Cowboys a 24-20 lead and appeared to secure an eighth-straight win as well as the Big 12 title and BCS bowl game berth. Oklahoma (10-2, 7-2) quarterback Blake Bell, however, had other plans. The junior, who started earlier this season before losing the job to Trevor Knight, rallied the No. 18 Sooners down the field and capped the drive with a 7-yard touchdown pass with 19 seconds remaining to Jalen Saunders in the corner of the end zone. Saunders touchdown came just five plays after Oklahoma States Justin Gilbert briefly appeared to intercept a pass from Bell, but the cornerback was unable to keep the ball from hitting the turf. Following Bells touchdown pass to Saunders, Eric Striker then ended the game for Oklahoma by recovering a fumble and scoring during a desperation series of laterals. The Sooners were then pelted with snow balls from the rival crowd. Oklahoma has now won at least 10 games in four straight seasons, and Sooners coach Bob Stoops is 8-1 in his career against Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy. "That was a heck of a football game," Gundy said. "Its unfortunate that we came up short. What the game really came down to was that Oklahoma made some key plays on fourth down, and we didnt." The win set off a frenzied celebration in a frigid Boone Pickens Stadium for visiting Oklahoma, while leaving Oklahoma State once again suffering a bitter defeat at the hands of its fiercest rival. This level of disappointment was higher than most for the Cowboys, whose hopes of a second Big 12 championship and BCS bowl game berth in three years were lost after Bells touchdown pass to Saunders. "You juust love it to see a guy whos a competitor like that, whos been sitting on the bench all game, to come in and play so well," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said of Bell. Rashaad Penny Jersey. . "He played great." The shakeup in the BCS bowl picture, however, was the last thing on the mind of Bell -- the Oklahoma junior who replaced injured starter Trevor Knight in the second half. After starting eight games earlier this season for the Sooners, including a win at Notre Dame, Bell began Saturday as Oklahomas third option at quarterback. He ended the game by leading the Sooners on a game-winning 66-yard drive in the closing minutes, going 5 of 8 for 57 yards on the drive and finishing 10-of-16 passing for 140 yards in relief of Knight and backup quarterback Kendal Thompson "I was just thinking that whenever I got my opportunity, I wanted to do the best I could with Trevor going down and Kendal coming in," Bell said. "... Once I got into the rhythm of the play, I felt like everything was clicking." Oklahoma State led for much of the game, only falling behind for the first time early in the fourth quarter when Oklahomas Michael Hunnicutt kicked a 39-yard field goal to put the Sooners up 20-17. Facing a late-game deficit, quarterback Clint Chelf appeared to rally the Cowboys for the win with a 7-play, 89-yard drive on which he completed five straight passes for first downs. Oklahoma stayed close for much of the game thanks to the play of its special teams, doing so with Knight on the bench in the second half with a shoulder injury. Saunders returned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown in the first half and Hunnicutt -- who also kicked a pair of field goals -- also caught a touchdown pass on a fake field goal attempt. Hunnicutts 8-yard touchdown catch from holder Grant Bothun tied the game at 17-17 late in the third quarter, and it came after Bothum darted to the left following the snap before finding a wide-open Hunnicutt. Stoops said the Sooners didnt put the fake in their gameplan until Thursday. "They called it in about 15 seconds before, so we didnt have too much time to think about it," Hunnicutt said. "I was just super excited." Hes a Hall of Famer now, but Stephen Ames isnt ready to give up playing golf just yet. Wholesale Nike Vapormax . Ames was unanimously named for induction into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame on Wednesday, becoming the 74th member of the countrys golfs shrine. And with Ames poised to celebrate his 50th birthday in April, the Calgary resident is planning to play events on both the PGA and Champions Tours in 2014. "Usually you think Hall of Famers are inducted when theyre finished playing," Ames said during a conference call from West Palm Beach, Fla. "I still see myself as a player right now. "Its a great honour, for sure, without a doubt." Ames induction ceremony is expected to be in Calgary in August during the Shaw Charity Classic, a Champions Tour event that Ames is a founding patron of. "The Canadian Golf Hall of Fame seeks to recognize excellence as golfers, contributors and supporters of the game," said Ian Clarke, the chairman of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fames selection committee. "Stephen Ames has excelled on the biggest stage in our sport and it is fitting that he will be recognized for his respective accomplishments." After attending Lynn University, Ames turned pro in 1987. A dual citizen of Canada and Trinidad and Tobago, Ames has recorded 11 career wins. Four have come on the PGA Tour, where he has earned over US$19.5 million. Ames first Tour win came July 4, 2004 at the Cialis Western Open, finishing two strokes ahead of American Steve Lowery. His last victory came in 09 at the Childrens Miracle Network Classic in a playoff with Justin Leonard and George McNeill, both of the U.S. Ames has also won on the European and Nationwide Tours as well as three skins events, including the 05 Telus World Skins Game in Whistler, B.C. when he finished ahead of Jack Nicklaus, John Daly and Vijay Singh. He finished second behind Daly in the 06 event held at Banff, Alta., and third in 07 in Thornbury, Ont. A career milestone came in 06 when Ames captured The Players Championship by six strokes over Retief Goosen. The win was worth US$1.44 million and moved Ames into No. 27 on the official world golf rankings at the time. But Ames said receiving the Hall of Fame nod has surpassed that as a career highlight, although he considers the 2006 win his biggest ever on a golf course. "It was a week of complete mental control, which we all know is very difficult to do, day in and day out," he said. "On the course, that would be it. "Off the course, being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Its very prestigious, very nice." Ames also made headlines of a different sort that year. When asked about top-ranked Tiger Woods prior to the 06 WGC-Accenture World Match Play Championship, Ames quipped: "Anything can happen, especially where hes hitting the ball." The next day, Woods thrashed Ames 9 and 8 in their match. Afterwards, Woods was asked about Ames comments and simply answered, "9 and 8." Ames is also active off the course. Last year, the Stephen Ames Foundation funded the inaugural CJGA Stephen Ames Junior Cup. And since 2005, he has hosted the Stephen Ames Cup, a Ryder Cup style tournament featuring a team of Canadian junior players versus a team from Trinidad and Tobago. His foundation also provides funding for junior golf programs and other childrens initiatives in Canada and Trinidad and Tobago. Ames is also involved in the construction of a golf course in Calgary that he hopes will host the Canadian Open by 2018 or 2020. Ames continues to put together his 2014 tournament schedule, adding he has exemption status on the PGA Tour this season. But he said having two separate circuits to choose from is indeed a luxury. "If I miss a few events at the start of the year, I have the option of playing on the PGA Tour or the Champions Tour," he said. "There are a couple of weeks where Im not going to be able to play in invitationals (on PGA Tour) but I can play in some of the majors on the Champions Tour. "Thats a wonderful opportunity that I have and an option as well, so lucky me." The Champions Tour is a circuit for golfers 50 years of age and over thats run by the PGA Tour. And while the Champion Tour competitors might be older, Ames said they still have the burning passion to compete. But there are subtle differences between the two golf Tours that Ames says hes going to enjoy. "The 19th hole might be a little different," he said. "The guys are definitely a little more relaxed after a round of golf and I think the camaraderie is going to be a little lighter, which is fantastic. "Its like playing with your buddies. You finish a round of golf and you go to the bar and have a drink and talk about your round . . . this is going to be a nice setting for me, I quite enjoy that." Nike Vapormax Ireland . Webb birdied the 18th hole to take the outright lead, then watched as Choi, who shot a course-record 62 on Saturday to take a share of the third-round lead, pushed a 10-foot putt wide of the hole at 18 to miss the chance for a playoff. Phil Jackson won NBA titles as a player and a coach. Hell now try winning as an executive. And this quest will take him back to where his career began. Jackson has agreed to run the New York Knicks front office and will be formally introduced by the team at a news conference at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday morning, a person familiar with the negotiations between the 11-time champion coach and the franchise told The Associated Press on Friday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Knicks would only confirm that a "major announcement" involving team executives was scheduled. Jackson also did not make any immediate public comment, but the move had been expected for several days -- and was practically confirmed earlier this week by Knicks star Carmelo Anthony, who said he had heard the Hall of Fame coach was "coming on board." Jackson had been courted by clubs before, and fans in Los Angeles clamoured for him to return to coaching not long after he left the Lakers after the 2010-11 season. Hes largely shunned limelight during this three-year break from work, during which he did things such as working on his health -- arthritis pain hampered him toward the end of his coaching career -- and released a book chronicling his basketball life. Denver coach Brian Shaw, who played for Jackson and has been an assistant under him as well, said Friday that he would not be surprised to see one of his mentors take on the challenge of rebuilding the Knicks. "I think hes a basketball lifer, a basketball junkie," Shaw said in Miami, where the Nuggets were playing the Heat. "I think that with all the success that hes had, what hes learned and his passion for the game, I think it gets boring when you do something like hes done all his life and all of a sudden youre kind of out of the mix. If he does do it, hed be excited about the challenge of attacking the game from a different position." Jackson played his first 10 NBA seasons with the Knicks -- he was there for 11 actually, missing the 1969-70 championship season because of injury. Jackson was a key part of the 1972-73 team that wonn the NBA title, topping the Lakers. Nike Vapormax Free Shipping. New York hasnt won a championship since. Jackson has won 11 since, six with the Chicago Bulls and five more with the Lakers. Shaw has spoken with Jackson regularly during the season, saying that his former coach will sometimes call or text to ask if a play the Nuggets run was one that they used together during their triangle-offence days. But Shaw -- who will likely be mentioned as a potential coaching candidate in New York if the Knicks decide to part ways with Mike Woodson -- has kept his distance from Jackson during this will-he-or-wont-he process. "Ive kind of left him alone during this period of time because I know its a lot going on and certainly people are hitting him from every different direction," Shaw said. Odds are, that wont change anytime soon. Jacksons arrival in New York will likely usher in a new era for the Knicks, who may miss the playoffs this season after winning 54 games a year ago. Even NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said earlier this week that he wanted to see Jackson back in the game, saying "the league needs him." Apparently, the Knicks felt they needed him as well. New York could lose Anthony this summer through free agency, will likely look to upgrade their roster in several other areas, and Jackson will have to tackle all those issues -- and plenty of others -- even though the Knicks have spent about as freely as any team in recent years. And a playoff trip this year is hardly a certainty, with the Knicks currently on the outside of the post-season picture. With the Bulls, he had Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. With the Lakers, he had Shaquille ONeal and Kobe Bryant. With the Knicks, hell have more questions than answers, at least in the beginning of his first foray into life as an executive. Theres also the issue of how much power hell actually have working for Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan. Since the start of the 2004-05 season, the Knicks have gone through six head coaches and won a total of seven playoff games. Starting Tuesday, itll apparently be Jacksons job to change all that. Second-round leader Erik Barnes tripped to a 4-over 75 on Thursday to fall into a share of fourth with Jay Myers (67) at 5-under 208. Barnes entered the day with a 2-stroke lead, but bogeyed the second to fall to 8-under and cut his advantage to just one. Madigan, meanwhile, birdied the fourth and seventh to meet McDonald at 8- under. McDonald and Madigan then bogeyed the fifth and ninth, respectively, to each fall to minus-7 and into a tie for the lead with Persons and Barnes. Persons had countered a double-bogey at the second with birdies at the fourth and sixth to reach 7-under. McDonald would then bogey the seventh, 10th, 11th and 12th to fall well off the pace before a hole-in-one at the 14th brought him back into contention, while Barnes bogeyed the ninth and 10th to also lose his share of the lead. Persons was next to fall out of the top spot with back-to-back bogeys at the 11th and 12th. That left Madigan alone in the lead and he took advantage with birdies at the 15th and 17th to move to 9-under and claim a 3-stroke lead. HOUSTON -- Washington outfielder Bryce Harper had surgery on his injured left thumb on Tuesday and will be out for an extended period of time. Jordan 12 For Sale Canada . Manager Matt Williams would not commit to a time frame, but said "that time frame is out there" after reports Monday that he would be out until at least July. "The doctor reported that everything went fine, and we got a little message from Bryce about getting back and taking BP post-surgery," Williams joked. "It went fine, well have to see how long it takes ... we expect him to heal fast. Given his history, he has healed pretty fast. We are optimistic about it, but were not really sure how long it is going to take." The two-time All-Star was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday with what was then called a sprained left thumb. Williams talked about what Harpers absence will mean for his team. "It hurts a lot. Hes a fantastic player," Williams said. "Well certainly miss him, but were going to have to step up." He was injured on Friday night against San Diego on a headfirst slide into third base on a triple. He remained in the game until after the next inning. Despite the injury, Williams is not opposed to headfirst slides. "Bryce had another collision sliding feet first earlier in the year, and he hurt himself last year sliding feet first," Williams said. "Its something that you cant control. The play that he hurt himself on, he was trying to get to third base the quickest he could, and I dont know if he is safe if he slides feet first. He was safe sliding head first, but he got the thumb in the wrong position." The 21-year-old Harper is batting .289 with one home run and nine RBIs this season. PHOENIX -- The NFL has suspended Arizona Cardinals standout inside linebacker Daryl Washington for one year for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. Vapormax Ireland . The punishment, announced Friday, was for substance abuse and did not mention his recent guilty plea to assaulting his ex-girlfriend. He still could face a later suspension for the criminal conviction. Washington, in a statement released by his agent, said the penalty was for marijuana, and that he takes responsibility for the violation. He said he "is committed to making changes" in his life that will allow him to return to the NFL. Considered among the best in the NFL at his position, Washington was suspended the first four games of last season for violating the substance abuse policy. "It is completely unacceptable that Daryl has once again put us in this position," Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said in a statement released by the team. "We all know what the consequences are and will deal with them." Washington, the team leader in tackles in 2011 and 2012, will lose $2.9 million in salary, plus any prorated signing bonus money, due to the suspension. In March, Arizona exercised a $10 million option to keep him on the roster. Washington received $5 million then and the deals calls for him to get the other $5 million next March. However, the leagues collective bargaining agreement with players has a mechanism that allows the Cardinals to recoup a portion of that option money because of the substance abuse violation. Washington said the NFL "policy is very strict, and I have chosen to take responsibility." "I will work extremely hard to stay in top football shape," he said, "and will work equally hard to ensure that my life off the field meets the high level of maturity and responsibility to which I am committed." With the loss of inside linebacker Karlos Dansby to free agency, the Cardinals find themselves without the dynamic combination that was a big part of their strong defence last season. Second-year player Kevin Minter is slotted to take Dansbys place. Just what the team will do to try to replace Washington is unclear. "Our approach is the same as its always been: next man up," Keim said. "We talk a lot about how critical depth is to a team because situations always arise whether by injury or other circumstances such as this one." After leading the team with 111 tackles in his second NFL season, Washington signed a six-year contract, adding four years and $32 million to his existing deal. In 2012, he led the team with career highs of 140 tackles and nine sacks and made the Pro Bowl. But in April of last year, the NFL suspended him four games for violating the substance abuse policy. A month later, he was arrested on accusations of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, the mother of the couples child. He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault earlier this year. A suspension for the criminal conviction had been expected. The penalty for substance abuse came as a surprise to some, but apparently not to Washingtons teammates. "Old news to us, new news to yall," defensive tackle Darnell Dockett said in a tweet. Keim said "our hope is that this suspension will give Daryl the opportunity to accept the necessary help and guidance to get his life back on track," Keim said, "and we will certainly support him however we can." When OTAs resumed this week, coach Bruce Arians said he hoped the team could pick up another outside linebacker. The Cardinals signed veteran Larry Foote in the off-season, and outside linebacker Lorenzo Washington also can play inside. Minter, a second-round draft pick, played almost entirely on special teams as a rookie. Another player Arizona has at inside linebacker is Kenny Demens, an undrafted rookie free agent a year ago who spent last season on the Cardinals practice squad. "I sincerely apologize for the effect of my actions on my teammates, coaches and other colleagues at the Cardinals," Washington said. "I also apologize to Cardinals fans for the time I will miss. I will work diligently during this suspension to return as a better man and football player." The Rays hope to stay alive for the postseason and salvage the finale of this series Sunday at Rogers Centre, where they dropped a 7-2 decision Saturday. Chris Archer lasted 2 1/3 innings in the no-decision, charged with a run and five hits, and Alex Torres suffered the loss in relief.TORONTO - As was the case in the Grey Cup last year, the Saskatchewan Roughriders had their way with Hamilton in the season opener last weekend, and now the team is tasked with taking on the Toronto Argonauts this Saturday afternoon at Rogers Centre. You can catch the action live on TSN at 3pm et/Noon pt. You can also listen to the game on NewsTalk 1010. Last November the Roughriders barely got their hands dirty as they mangled Hamilton in the title game, 45-23, and on Sunday night the reigning champs experienced similar success in the rematch as they cruised to a 31-10 home win. There were many aspects of the game in which Saskatchewan excelled, but the most notable area was with its pressure on quarterback Zach Collaros. Under heavy rain, Collaros had limited time to gain his footing and find open receivers, but to be sacked 10 times is still incredible. Leading the way for the Riders was defensive end Ricky Foley, who made a total of six tackles, three of those on Collaros in the backfield. Last season, Saskatchewan ranked third in the league in sacks with 57, so they are already off to a tremendous start in that department. It should also be noted that Hamilton was the weakest club in the league in terms of holding off would-be sackers, allowing 65 takedowns of signal-callers. For his efforts, Foley was named the Defensive and Canadian Player of the Week for Week 1. Because of the constant hitting under less than ideal conditions, the Tiger-Cats fumbled four times and lost possession twice. On the offensive side of the ball for the Riders, quarterback Darian Durant orchestrated a decent effort, converting 15-of-22 passes for 136 yards and a couple of touchdowns, but the real story was new running back Anthony Allen. Saskatchewan figured to have a huge hole to fill in the backfield with the departure of Kory Sheets, the leagues second-leading rusher a year ago (1,598 yards), as he made the move back to the NFL to join the Oakland Raiders, but Allen seems to have turned more than a few heads with his hard-nosed play coming out of the gate. Allen carried the ball 27 times for a game-high 158 yards, dwarfing the efforts of the entire Tiger-Cats rushing attack which managed to produce a mere 42 net yards. Allen, who crossed the goal line on a one-yard run in the second quarter, also caught a two-yard pass for a major earlier in the meeting. Wholesale Vapormax Ireland. While the Roughriders were again whipping up on Hamilton, the Argonauts were the ones taking a beating at the hands of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the season opener last Thursday night, 45-21. On paper, Toronto should have easily handled the hosts, but thats why they actually play the game. Ricky Ray, the quarterback with the top efficiency rating in the league a year ago, threw touchdown passes to Jason Barnes and Jeremiah Johnson in the second and third quarters, respectively, but that was only after the hosts lit up the scoreboard with 24 unanswered points to begin the meeting. Ray completed 27-of-38 passes for 283 yards, with Chad Owens being his favorite target with eight catches for 78 yards. Owens also pitched in with three punt returns for another 85 yards, one of those stretching for 83 yards and a major in the fourth quarter. Owens, who is always a threat to break a big play, was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the seventh time in his career. Even though the Argos came out on the losing end in the first game of the season, the teams management is keenly aware of the value that Owens brings to the field each and every week, which is why the mighty sprite was signed to a contract extension through the 2015 campaign. Not limited to keeping only the skill players happy, Toronto also extended center Jeff Keeping it was announced on Monday. While he certainly doesnt get the same amount of press as Owens, Keeping has still made a name for himself after he was not only named an East Division All-Star, but won the Leo Dandurand Memorial Trophy as the East Divisions Outstanding Offensive Lineman following the 2013 campaign. Unfortunately, the Toronto defense had no answers for the Blue Bombers, a team that last season won a total of just three times. Bombers quarterback Drew Willy threw for a career-high 308 yards and four touchdowns while being named the CFL Offensive Player of the Week. Winnipeg generated 459 yards of offense, and kept the Toronto defense on the field for more than 36 minutes. Toronto trails in the all-time series between these two clubs, 46-37-1, when speaking of regular-season meetings dating back to 1961. However, the Argos have won two of the last three meetings, including a 31-29 final in Regina last September. General Discussion / tors 20th overall selection in Thursdays NBA Dra
« on: January 09, 2019, 05:51:58 AM »
TORONTO - Bruno Caboclo, the Raptors 20th overall selection in Thursdays NBA Draft, arrived in Toronto Friday evening. Discount Air Max 90 . A wide-eyed 18-year-old visiting North America for only the second time in his young life, Caboclo immediately noticed the "big tower" his new home is best known for. Then he got to work. Caboclo, described by those who know him as a "gym rat," was amazed to find out that hell have access to the Raptors practice facility at any time, day or night, just one of the many perks that comes with being drafted into the NBA. At 11:00 PM, the Brazilian forward was taking jump shots on his new teams practice court, on the third level of the Air Canada Centre. "I need to get a feeling for the gym and I need to get the rust off," he told Eduardo Resende, his long-time friend, translator and closest advisor. A couple hours later he was in bed. It had been a long day. About 24-hours earlier, on the night of the draft, Caboclo and Resende were in the backseat of a cab, en route from the airport to their hotel in New York City and following along with the picks on Twitter. They expected to be in their rooms by the time the commissioner called Caboclos name, sometime in the second round, or so they thought. Thats when they got the news. Refreshing the app on his phone, Caboclo learned he had been drafted, that his dream had come true. If you thought you were surprised by the pick… "The taxi driver didnt understand what went on," Resende joked. "We were screaming back there. It was crazy." "He was jumping out of the roof. He was very excited. Its a dream come true. For a young Brazilian player that could only see those things on TV and then all of sudden hes a part of it." Caboclo tried to call his family back in Brazil but no one answered, they were asleep. He fielded calls for hours and finally heard from Masai Ujiri, the man who had just shocked the basketball world by making the pick, at 2:00 AM as the two were ordering some late-night food at a New York pizzeria. At 4:00 AM they were finally able to get some sleep. Thursday night was an emotional one for all 60 prospects fortunate enough to have their name called - dreams realized, lives changed - but for Caboclo the feeling was a little different. It had to be. A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Caboclo - the youngest of three siblings - grew up in a rough environment. "He comes from a difficult family financially," Resende said. "He supports his family." Without cable in his house Caboclo was unable to watch NBA basketball until recently, but hes been playing the game since he was 13-years-old, dunking since he was 14. When did he know he wanted to play in the NBA? "Always," he said, after Resende relayed the question in his native Portuguese. The Raptors were intrigued since the moment they saw the 6-foot-9 Brazilian. With a couple of Torontos scouts watching, Caboclo won the most valuable player award at the 2013 Basketball Without Borders Americas. At the request of his staff, Ujiri went to go see the young man play in Brazil. He would later make two more trips, bringing with him Jeff Weltman, Toronto executive VP of basketball operations, and other members of the organization. They werent the only team wise to Caboclo, though they were one of a small handful. No more than five teams knew about him, according to a club source. "Youre going to get some scouts fired for this," one Raptors staff member told a team scout, jokingly, while watching Caboclo in amazement. If he realizes his potential in the NBA, despite flying under most of the leagues radar, it could change the way many teams approach their scouting process. Ujiri and company kept a low profile on these trips, for obvious reasons. Even Caboclo had no idea he was being watched, playing sparingly for Pinheiros in Sao Paulo at the time. Ujiri happened to be in attendance when one of Caboclos teammates got hurt, creating more playing time for the young forward. He brought back some film of that game to review with his staff… on his cell phone. Even with limited live action data to work with, Ujiri quickly fell in love with Caboclos upside. As he worked out in Toronto just before being introduced to the local media for the first time Saturday morning, it wasnt hard to see why. With a 7-foot-6 wingspan, he barely has to leave his feet to extend above the rim. Hes wiry, can handle the ball and his shooting mechanics are "excellent", according to a front office source who has seen him play. At one point during the workout, Caboclo was asked to dribble past a coach and dunk the ball. Instead, he passed that coach the ball. His English, like the rest of his game, is a work in progress but hes absorbing everything like a sponge. "Soon he wont need me here anymore," joked Resende, who has known Caboclo since he was a kid, working with him for the last two years. "His improvements have come very fast," he continued. "He is nowhere near the Bruno who was MVP at Basketball Without Borders. He is way past that." "Hes a little shy until he gets used to whats going on, and then hes very open," Ujiri echoed. "Hes a gym rat, and hes competitive. If he doesnt do a drill well, he will want to finish it. Thats him. Hes a great kid. Loves basketball. He wants to be in the gym every second, which is what you want in an 18-year-old." "Its a gamble," Ujiri acknowledged. Although Caboclo has the tools to succeed in the NBA, it will take time. Listed at 205 pounds, the young man will need to add muscle and get comfortable with the language on top of the work hell need to put in to grow his game in the league. As for the negative reaction to his unexpected pick, Ujiri doesnt care. "Honestly, I dont do it for reactions of anybody," said the Raptors general manager. He may well be "two years away from being two years away", as Fran Fraschilla so eloquently put it on the ESPN broadcast, he may be "five years away from being five years away", as Ujiri joked on Saturday, but the Raptors feel strongly about their pick and will patiently ride it out for as long as it takes. Caboclos drive, passion and work ethic should justify that patience. "He is very aware that hes coming to a league thats pretty tough and hes only 18 so theyre probably right about two years from being two years or whatever," Resende said on behalf of Caboclo. "But he said hes a hard worker and hes going to cut that [timeline] down and contribute before everybody [thinks]" The work begins immediately. Caboclo will travel to Los Angeles on Sunday to meet and workout with some of the teams players and coaches. The Raptors plan to get him on a weight training program right away, while he puts in time with an English tutor, something the team did with Jonas Valanciunas after he came over from Lithuania. He wont play for Brazil this year - though he hopes to represent his country in the 2016 Rio Olympics - as he has committed fully to the Raptors. Hell participate in the teams Summer League entry in Las Vegas next month and then prepare for his rookie season. Ujiri anticipates Caboclo will spend at least a portion of his first year bouncing up and down from the Development League (Note: the Raptors have yet to announce their D-League affiliate for next season). "Hes going to start learning," Ujiri said. "Starting today. Hes a basketball junkie. Those guys usually figure out a way." OAKLAND, Calif. -- Matt Garza plans to pitch as well as he can for the Chicago Cubs as long as hes with the team. Thats how hes dealing with all this trade talk. Garza pitched eight sharp innings for his third consecutive win, leading the Cubs to a 3-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night. "For the past six or seven years my name always comes up," he said. "Until my phone rings, Im going to be a Cub. Im just worried about the next five days." Garza (4-1) allowed one run and four hits, struck out five and walked three in his fourth consecutive quality start. The right-hander is 3-0 with a sparkling 0.90 ERA since yielding a season-high nine runs to the Cincinnati Reds on June 11. "Thats as good as Ive seen him in two years," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "Thats with seven lefties in the lineup. His command of the fastball down and away, he didnt need to throw many breaking balls. He had extra velocity when he needed it and threw first pitch strikes." With the Cubs well off the pace in the NL Central, Garza could be one of the top targets for contenders looking for pitching help ahead of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. "Sure I love pitching in October," Garza said. "Id love to be pitching with this team in October. Were scratching and clawing our way back into the toughest division." Luis Valbuena homered for Chicago, which has won five of seven. Alfonso Soriano and Brian Bogusevic each drove in a run, and Kevin Gregg pitched the ninth for his 14th save in 15 chances. Brandon Moss went deep for the Athletics, who had won five of six. Bartolo Colon (11-3) gave up two runs and nine hits in seven innings in his first loss since May 9. "It was a good matchup with two pitchers you expect to go deep into games," As manager Bob Melvin said. "We had a tough time figuring out Garza." As catcher John Jaso, one of the many left-handed batters, said he had trouble with Garzas fastball. "He moved it arouund on me the whole night," Jaso said. Air Max 90 Ireland. "He made a good pitch to Soriano, who stayed on it and got the bloop single and then the home run," Melvin said. "Other than that he pitched like weve seen him all year." Colons first wild pitch in over four years helped the Cubs score in the first. Starlin Castro singled with one out, advanced to second on the wild pitch and scored on Sorianos single. Colons last wild pitch was on May 26, 2009, a span of 1,499 days and 443 innings. Valbuenas seventh homer of the season gave the Cubs a 2-0 edge in the third. It was his first home run in just over a month. Moss connected for his 15th homer in the fourth, but Dioner Navarro and Bogusevic hit back-to-back doubles to make it 3-1 in the eighth. General Discussion / north this season. [url=http://www.cheapairmax9
« on: January 09, 2019, 05:49:39 AM »
The Buffalo Bills wont be coming north this season. Buy Air Max 90 Online . The NFL club and Rogers Communications announced Wednesday theyve put the beleaguered Bills Toronto Series -- which features Buffalo playing exhibition and regular-season games at Rogers Centre -- on hold for at least a year. That means the team will play eight home games at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y., for the first time since 2007. "The plan is to postpone it for one year, regroup and determine whats the next best step," said Keith Pelley, the president of Rogers Communications media division. "Its not nullified right now, we have an agreement in place. "Anything is possible but thats not the plan. The plan is to take a step back and say, OK, the Series is having some challenges, the NFL is still big in Toronto, its still important to the Bills so whats the best way to move forward?" The decision comes a little more than a year after the Bills and Rogers agreed to renew the series for five years, though 2017 after the original five-year deal expired. A series-low gathering of 38,969 watched the Atlanta Falcons nip Buffalo 34-31 in overtime Dec. 1 at Rogers Centre, which can seat 54,000 spectators for football. The loss dropped the Bills regular-season record in Toronto to a dismal 1-5 -- and 0-4 in December -- since the start of the series in 08. Buffalo also sports the NFLs longest active post-season drought at 14 straight seasons. Bills president Russ Brandon said the atmosphere at Rogers Centre versus Atlanta figured in the clubs decision to take a step back. "I think thats a fair comment," Brandon told reporters in Orchard Park. "Obviously were trying to build a fan base north of the border and this year I would say it was a neutral crowd. "Some of that had to do with how we played over the last six years, (that) has really not been conducive to building a lot of fans that were NFL fans, but were trying to make them Bills fans. Were going to continue to try to do that through a variety of initiatives that we will be working with Rogers over the next year in a very robust sponsorship and partnership that we will have that will cater to fans above the border." Following the loss to Atlanta, Brandon publicly questioned whether his club loses its competitive edge playing in Toronto. Buffalo has often battled neutral crowds at its home away from home. Bills games at Rogers Centre routinely attract a mix of NFL fans who proudly don their team colours and cheer as loudly -- or sometimes louder -- for Buffalos opponent than the home team. In fact, several Falcons players were surprised at the support they received at Rogers Centre. "It didnt feel like we were in Canada," said Atlanta safety William Moore. "I even saw a No. 25 jersey (Moores number) out there." Whats more, playing in a domed facility robs the Bills of their biggest home advantage: The cold, windy conditions that are the norm in December at Ralph Wilson Stadium. "Were going to go through a detailed full analysis," Brandon said. "Were going to look at every aspect that if we do come back we have a more robust fan experience and try to create more of a home field advantage for us. "Right now that was not the situation. That was one of the reasons we want to get in to a lot of detail with our partners up there and see if that is viable moving forward." Brandons statement "if we do come back," prompted a followup question regarding whether the Bills mightve played their final game in Toronto. "What I said is that were going through a full evaluation process and well work with our partners," Brandon responded. The Bills Toronto Series was unveiled as an attempt to showcase Toronto as a viable NFL city. Rogers Communications Inc. paid US$78 million to stage eight games -- five regular season, three exhibition -- expecting southern Ontario fans to flock to Rogers Centre. But high-priced tickets -- initially averaging over $180 each, compared to roughly US$51 at Orchard Park --and struggling Bills teams combined to make it a tough sell. Tickets were reduced to roughly an average price of $99 to make the game more affordable but even that didnt result in a sellout. "Its always very difficult to change public opinion midway through a project," Pelley said. "Theres no hiding the fact the series did not get off to a rosy start. "It tough midway through to change that perception, hence the reason why we thought it would be a best to take a year off then re-launch it once weve thought that through." Series organizers have also struggled to find the right formula to re-create the NFL experience here. A huge attraction for many American football fans is arriving at the stadium hours before kickoff, setting up the barbecue to cook a variety of foods while throwing a football around in the parking lot or breaking down the upcoming game with friends over a cold beer. However, provincial laws make that impossible in Toronto. The creation of the series also fuelled speculation Toronto would be the landing spot for the Bills upon the death of Ralph Wilson Jr., the clubs 95-year-old owner. However, Brandon routinely stated the NFL club was merely broadening its regional base to include Canadas largest city and generate additional revenue. Brandon said the Bills must take ownership for their role in the series struggles. "I think its been a roller-coaster from the standpoint of just the losses," he said. "Thats on us. "Some of the initiatives Rogers has worked through on their end have improved, but obviously this past year was disappointing with that neutral crowd that we had there, to say the least. I think there have been positives. As I mentioned earlier, the biggest positive has been the influx of fans back here at Ralph Wilson Stadium." Now the question remains whether the Bills can sell out eight home games in 2014. "Obviously last year we had to really work for our sellouts, understandably so," Brandon said. "Thats something that were willing to take on, that challenge. "We have very passionate fans and tremendous fans, but we have to really work to sell tickets here as weve discussed in the past. Were not satisfied until every seat in this building is sold. Thats always the No. 1 initiative and really the foundation of how we run our business." General Discussion / out nicely for Bronson Arroyo. [url=http://w

PHOENIX -- Working the black worked out nicely for Bronson Arroyo. Cheap Air Jordan Nz Online . Enticing Houstons aggressive hitters by throwing to the corners and out of the strike zone, Arroyo pitched seven strong innings to lift the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-1 win over the Astros on Tuesday. "These guys are really aggressive and young, so I dont think theyd change their approach that much," Arroyo said. "It allowed me to stay on the outer half and get a lot of groundballs." Arroyo (6-4) matched Houston starter Brad Peacock through seven innings before the Diamondbacks scored two runs off Josh Fields (1-4) in the seventh. Hill hit a sacrifice fly in the inning and Cody Ross knocked him in with a double to right-centre after an error by Astros shortstop Jonathan Villar. Hill added a run-scoring double in the eighth inning to put Arizona up 4-1. Paul Goldschmidt also homered and Addison Reed worked a perfect ninth for his 16th save. Arizona has won six of eight after its latest rally-from-a-slow-start game. "Weve been pushing on, guys staying with their approach," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "A lot of talking on the bench and weve made some adjustments in-game when weve had to." The Astros have been superb on the road over the past month, winning eight of their previous nine, including the series opener against Arizona Monday night. Houston had no answer for Arroyo, though, managing seven hits -- three of those by Jon Singleton -- while going 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. "He was throwing the ball good," Peacock said. "Weve been doing a great job jumping on people, but hes one of the best starters in the game and we just couldnt get to him today." Arroyo has hit his stride since a spring-training back injury limited his effectiveness early in the season. The right-hander won his last outing, against Colorado last Wednesday, and has pitched well against the Astros, entering Tuesdays start 9-1 with a 2.05 ERA his last 12 starts against them. He laboured through the first two innings, working around six baserunners while throwing 42 pitches. The right-hander breezed through the next three innings before Matt Dominguez followed Singletons leadoff double by lining a run-scoring single through Arizonas drawn-in infield to tie the game at 1-all. Arroyo got some defensive help along the way, including a pair of strike-out, throw-out double plays and a nifty grab up the middle by Hill on a short-hop in the seventh inning. Arroyo allowed a run on six hits and struck out five. "Hes hitting his stride here, got on a pretty good roll," Gibson said. "He knows how to get guys out." Peacock won his previous three starts and was sharp in his first game against Arizona. Goldschmidt splashed a solo homer into the pool in right-centre off him in the first inning, but the right-hander allowed two more hits after that -- a pair of infield singles in the second. Peacock walked four and struck out three in six innings. "Peacock did a great job," Astros manager Bo Porter said. "Six innings, strong, he finally started to use the top of the strike zone, did a good job of keeping us right there." Notes: The Diamondbacks have hit a double in 23 straight games, longest since club-record 32-game streak in 2006. ... MILWAUKEE - It wasnt the bounce-back performance they expected, but it was the one they needed. Cheap Air Max Plus . Coming off a disappointing loss, their first of the young season in Atlanta 24 hours earlier, the Raptors responded with a gritty victory and one they can be proud of despite shooting just 40 per cent from the field. Rudy Gay, like the rest of his team, was not perfect, but delivered on his promise to be better after turning in one of his worst outings as a Raptor on Friday. "We learned from last night," said Gay, the Raptors leading scorer, who had a career night rebounding the ball in Torontos 97-90 win over the Bucks Saturday. "It shows how resilient we are. We just picked it up and still got the win, even if it wasnt pretty." In terms of offensive efficiency, it wasnt pretty. Gay, fresh off a 6-for-23 shooting night, shot just 4-of-14 from the floor. DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry also struggled, each shooting 5-for-14, while Jonas Valanciunas was 3-of-8 in just 16 minutes. "I mean, myself, I cant remember the last time I knocked down a shot personally," Gay joked after the game. "But as far as the team [goes], we were moving the ball around and we defended our asses off." "It definitely wasnt our offence," Raptors coach Dwane Casey admitted. "We had to do it with our defence. We had to dig in." Hanging their heads following Fridays defeat, Casey reminded his players they were just two games into a long season. His message to Gay and the others: if your shots not falling, find another way to help the team win. Message received. Gay grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds and got to the line 10 times, DeRozan dished out five assists and Lowry contributed six boards and four dimes. All three were a factor on defence. "Im just trying not to be one-dimensional," Gay said. "[Friday,] my shot wasnt falling. Tonight my shot wasnt falling. I just wanted to make an effort on defence and on the glass...try to make myself a part of the game, because Friday I didnt feel like I was." Shot selection was still an issue for Gay and so too were turnovers - he had five. With six minutes remaining and following a sloppy pass, Gay missed a 25-foot three-point jumper and committed a frustration foul. As a result, Casey took Gay out of the game. Whether the Raptors coach felt he needed a breather or whether he was sending Gay another message, the forward responded when he re-entered a minute-and-a-half later. "I know he probably didnt like it," Casey said of his decision to sit Gay down midway through the final quarter. "But I know whats best for him. He needed to sit down for a little bit [and] let his second wind kick in. We got him right back in and he finished it out." Gay checked back in with 4:24 left to go with the Raptors up two on the Bucks. He didnt attempt a single field goal the rest of the way, but knocked down a couple free throws and pulled down six big rebounds. "Nobody wants to come out of the game in the fourth quarter," Gay said candidly after the victory. "I dont know anyone who does. But no matter what happens, you have to stay focused and do the best you can for the team." The Raptors took advantage of six Milwaukee miscues in the third quarter to stretch their lead to as big as 13 before the Bucks made a run in the fourth, tying the game at 85 with just under six minutes to play and Gay on the bench at the time. A similar stretch, late in the second quarter, turned the game in Atlanta, but this time, the Raptors responded, mainly on the defensive end. "We are becoming a resilient team," Gay said. "Times where we would fold last season, we are showing we can come back after a tough loss and still win games." Dominating the boards, the Raptors out-rebounded Milwaukee 60-38, including an 18-6 advantage on the offensive boards Saturday night. Including Gays career total, seven Raptors tallied five or more rebounds and the team won the battle of the boards for a third consecutive game. "[It was a] concerted effort to rebound," Lowry said. "Thats our team game. When we go to small ball, we all have to rebound." Through three games, the Raptors have out-rebounded their opponents by 42 with a plus-23 differential on the offensive glass. Moving the ball After totalling just 15 assists in each of the teams first two games, the Raptors registered 19 dimes on 31 made field goals. "I think the ball really moved a lot better tonight," said Lowry, who had four assists without committing a turnover. "I think everyone made a concerted effort from watching the film this morning of last nights game to try to get the ball from side to side and get everybody involved early." Quiet night for Jonas For the second straight night, Jonas Valanciunas played fewer than 18 minutes, a product of the match-up against smaller, quicker front lines according to Casey. Casey has opted to use small lineups in the fourth quarter of each game, matching up with both the Hawks and Bucks, who have done the same. "When you go small, hes not ready to be that five man yet, alone," Casey said of Valanciunas, preferring to use Amir Johnson or Tyler Hansbrough as an anchor in the middle with four smaller, more versatile players. "Hes going to get there, believe me - hes going to get there. Hes not there yet." AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Kyle Busch didnt mind the rain that ended the race early. He would have been fine with continuing, though -- his car was that good. Busch became the first driver to win three straight NASCAR Nationwide races at Phoenix International Raceway, dominating his way through a rain-shortened race Saturday. "Weve been very dominant here in the past and led a lot of laps today," Busch said. "I felt like we could have won it if it was rain-shortened or whether we went the whole distance." Busch took an early lead and was still out front when the race was halted with 32 laps left in the 200-mile race around Phoenixs odd-shaped mile oval. After a delay of more than two hours, the race was called, giving Busch his series-record 64th Nationwide victory. Busch led 155 laps for his 10th overall victory -- seven in Nationwide -- at PIR and the fourth straight Nationwide win for Joe Gibbs Racing at the track. It also was the fourth straight win at PIR for Buschs crew chief Adam Stevens, who was at the helm when Joey Logano won for JGR in the 2012 fall race. Kevin Harvick finished second and pole sitter Brad Keselowski was third, followed by Kyle Larson and Matt Kenseth. "Kyle had the best car today; we probably finished where we should have," Harvick said. "You never know and you always want to finish it out, but all in all it was a good start." BBusch swept the two Nationwide races at Phoenix in 2013, overcoming a pit-road speeding penalty to end a 24-race winless streak in the series in the spring and leading 169 laps in the fall for his 12th Nationwide victory of the season. Air Max Plus Canada Online. He had the dominant car at PIR on Saturday, moving into the lead on the sixth lap after starting third. Busch led 83 laps after that, retook the top spot on a restart after a pit stop midway through and stayed there another with about 60 laps left. "Another dominant day at Phoenix," Busch said. "Those days dont come around that often, so you try to enjoy them when you can." Rain put a slight damper on Buschs run to the checkers and certainly delayed it. PIR dodged the heavy downpours that spread across the Phoenix area for most of the day, but rain sent the fans scrambling and halted the race with 32 laps left. NASCAR sent out the blowers in an effort to get the track dry, but another round of storms moved across the area, soaking the track and ending the race. "I just had my hands full, for whatever reason, and felt kind of relieved to get it over with here," said Keselowski, who will start from the pole for Sundays Sprint Cup race without crew chief Paul Wolfe, who left the team for the birth of his first child. To the surprise of many, the Senators entered the playoffs as a seventh seed and upset the Canadiens in the first round 4-1.This season, the expectations for the Senators were lofty, they lost captain Daniel Alfredsson but acquired Bobby Ryan and star defenceman Erik Karlsson was given a clean bill of health. Yet, the Senators failed live up the level of performance theyd produced the previous season and were removed from the playoff race shortly after the trade deadline. Some would say the Sens just werent ready to fight for it.GIF credit: TumblrThe Toronto Maple Leafs 2013 playoff run gave hope to fans that the future was bright for the team. Add a new starting goaltender in Jonathan Bernier and two veteran grinders, David Clarkson and Dave Bolland, and it seemed the Leafs were ready to surge beyond the first round of the playoffs. Yet, the Leafs game 7 collapse against the Bruins in 2013 turned out be a microcosm of the 2013-2014 campaign.Sitting a safely in a playoff spot late in the season, the Leafs travelled to California for a road trip; the team defeated the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings to put themselves at a 90% chance of making the playoffs. To the amazement of many, the Leafs then dropped eight straight games –and 12 of their final 14- before falling well out of the playoffs. The Leafs pretty well took themselves out this season.GIF credit: The Leafs NationThe Winnipeg Jets had come close to a playoff spot in each of their first two years in the city. Many fans wondered; could this be the year the team finally entered the post-season? The answer to that question would be no. Early failures led to the team firing head coach Claude Noel in January, and though Paul Maurice put the Jets in the playoff race after he arrived, but once again the team missed their mark.GIF credit: TumblrThe Vancouver Canucks went from having the leagues top goaltending duo last season, to now having Eddie Lack and Jacob Markstrom as options in their crease. After trading Corey Schneider in the offseason, the Canucks traded Roberto Luongo prior to the trade deadline, a move that stunned the hockey world. The team went from a contender to a rebuilding team almost overnight. The disaster of the previous 10 months led to president and general manager Mike Gillis being fired and coach John Tortorella being on the hottest of seats entering the offseason. In the end, this GIF perfectly summed up the Canucks season.GIF credit: Vancouver Sports BlogThe Calgary Flames ended this season with the ability to move forward with a lot of positives. This season was a write-off for team, they traded franchise hero Jarome Iginla and defenceman Jay Bouwmeester on deadline day last season and watched goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff retire. The Flames were simply using this season to allow their young players to gain experience and finish with a high draft pick. Yet, the success of young players such as Sean Monahan and a breakout campaign from Mikael Backlund have given Flames fans hope for the future, something many fans in Canada dont seem to have right now.In the end, the Flames line brawl against the Canucks will likely live as the most memorable moment in a forgettable 2013-2014.GIF credit: TumblrGIF credit: TumblrFinally, we have the Edmonton Oilers, who have once again taken their place in the leagues basement despite being overloaded with young talent. The Oilers seemed to have more promise than ever entering this season after signing the hottest coaching name, Dallas Eakins, and adding Andrew Ference to lead the teams young core from the blue line. Yet, despite a new coach and new captain, the Oilers once again struggled to compete and were forced to make moves for their future rather than moves to help a playoff push. The Oilers additions of goaltenders Ben Scrivens and Viktor Fasth seemed to be a step in the right direction, however another season of "maybe next year" angered even the most patient of Edmonton fans. Multiple jerseys were thrown on the ice this season and despite Scrivens sending one back, the fans may be on the verge of no longer taking them back. GIF credit: Twitter.com/myregularfaceThe failures of the above six franchises have led Canadians to being forced to either cheer for the Canadiens, a polarizing franchise at best, or cheer for a team south of the border.Of course, theres always the option throw in the towel on watching playoff at all, just like Dallas Eakins did. Is this the worst season ever of Canadian NHL teams? The evidence above suggests it might be… Wholeale Air Max 90 Australia Online . The captain and his Kings specialize in agitating and outworking the opposition -- and even after they blew a three-goal lead, they drew one more penalty to set up the winner. Jeff Carter scored his second power-play goal on a deflection of Mike Richards shot 28 seconds into overtime, and the Kings outlasted the Senators 4-3 on Wednesday night. Brown scored twice during the Kings three-goal first period, and Carter had three points in Los Angeles sixth straight home victory over Ottawa in the past decade. After scoring just six goals in their first three games of the season, the Kings were on their game again. "We just wanted to establish that mentality we had last year," Brown said of last seasons Western Conference finalists. "Obviously, it wasnt as clean as we wanted it, but we got the job done. Thats what we need from our power play, to step up at big times. The important thing is to continue to build on that." Milan Michalek scored the tying goal with 4:27 left in regulation for the Senators. Jean-Gabriel Pageau netted his third career goal in the second period, and Bobby Ryan scored his first goal with Ottawa early in the third. Jonathan Quick made 22 saves for the Kings. Richards and Anze Kopitar had two assists apiece. Carter scored the winner during 4-on-3 play in the final second of Clarke MacArthurs hooking penalty from late in regulation. Richards teed up a shot that might have banked off an Ottawa stick before it was redirected by Carter in front. "He made a great play," Carter said of his longtime teammate and roommate. "All I did was go to the net and stand there. You go to the net, put your stick on the ice, and guys in this league are going to find it. Its pretty simple. I dont do anything pretty out there." Craig Anderson stopped 28 shots as the Senators opened a four-game Western road swing that is part of their season-opening six-game trip. Ryan, the longtime Anaheim Ducks forward, scored during a power play early in the third period of his first game back in Southern California since he was traded north. Kings fans booed him loudly out of habit. "Im pretty proud of the way the guys reacted to come back and get a point on the road,&" Ryan said. Air Max 90 Australia Cheap. "This is a tough building. ... My first two games, I felt like there were opportunities where I didnt capitalize. Im glad its over with, and now hopefully I can go get a bunch more." Ottawa captain Jason Spezza sat out to rest a persistent groin injury, leaving his team without its top-line centre. He should return for back-to-back games in San Jose and Anaheim this weekend. Stephane Da Costa replaced Spezza on the Sens first line between Michalek and Ryan. Brown got the Kings first goal moments after he stepped out of the box from serving a penalty for interfering with Anderson, his fellow U.S. Olympic team hopeful and former teammate with the OHLs Guelph Storm. The Senators then committed a string of penalties, and Carter scored his third goal of the season off a scramble at the moment Los Angeles first 5-on-3 advantage ended. Los Angeles went up 3-0 on another goal by Brown, who deflected a pass from Carter in Andersons crease right after another two-man advantage ended. "We cant just sit there and say, The officials dont like us, or whatever," Ottawa coach Paul MacLean said. "Weve got to quit taking penalties and putting our team in a bad spot out there." Ottawa answered early in the second period when Erik Condra controlled a loose puck and fed the 20-year-old Pageau for a one-timer that trickled past Quick. Pageau, who had a memorable post-season hat trick against Montreal last May, was playing in just his 12th regular-season game. Ryan trimmed the Kings lead to one goal with a power-play score. Moments after Quick made a phenomenal blocker stop on a point-blank chance for Da Costa, Michalek found a loose puck amid a tangle of legs in the high slot and fired it past Quick for his first goal of the season. NOTES: Ottawa RW Chris Neil went to the dressing room in the second period after Kings defenceman Alec Martinez accidentally chipped the puck into his face. Neil returned later in the period. ... The Kings scratched D Jake Muzzin after a poor game against the Rangers on Monday night, activating Martinez for the first time this season. LW Daniel Carcillo made his Kings debut on a line with Carter and Richards. Colin Fraser was scratched. ... Los Angeles will begin a four-game road trip at Carolina on Friday night.
